Commercial flooring demolition is more than pulling up the old floor. Equipment selection, removal method, safety procedure and protection of the substrate all determine what condition the facility is in when the new flooring goes down.

Removal methods
No single method works for every project. Depending on the existing flooring, adhesive, substrate, project size and facility conditions, we may use:
- Ride-on flooring removal equipment
- Walk-behind removal equipment
- Mechanical floor scrapers
- Hand scraping
- Grinding and mechanical surface preparation
- Specialized adhesive-removal methods
The goal is to remove the old floor efficiently while protecting the substrate that has to support the new one.
Electric ride-on removal
For larger projects, electric ride-on removal equipment dramatically outproduces hand methods — particularly on adhered carpet tile and resilient flooring.
Electric matters as much as ride-on. It lets the machine run inside an occupied or enclosed building without engine exhaust, which is what makes overnight and closed-hours work possible in a retail or healthcare setting.

Trade Mark Floors replaced approximately 2,000 square feet of carpet tile in the main lobby of the Best Buy in Clarksville, Indiana.
The work had to happen while the store was closed, which meant demolition, substrate prep and installation all had to fit inside a single closed window with the store opening on schedule the next morning.
We ran an electric ride-on demolition machine to strip the existing carpet tile fast enough to leave the installation crew the time they needed. The store opened on time.
Projects like this are why equipment selection matters as much as installation skill. Hand-scraping that lobby would have consumed the entire window.
Protecting the substrate
The condition of the substrate underneath is the main risk during demolition.
Aggressive technique can damage concrete, plywood or underlayment if the method doesn't match the existing conditions. Ceramic tile and heavily adhered resilient flooring over wood substrates are particularly difficult — removal frequently leaves damaged underlayment, residual adhesive or mortar that has to be addressed before anything new can go down.

Safety
Commercial demolition requires proper PPE, dust control, equipment operation, material handling and jobsite procedure.
Certain existing materials require additional precautions. Older flooring, adhesives and other building materials may contain asbestos or other regulated materials. When those are suspected, the material should be evaluated and handled according to applicable regulations by the appropriate licensed parties before flooring demolition proceeds.
